Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año announced that those who will be caught outside their houses without wearing mask will be imprisoned for 10 to 30 days, Wednesday, July 22.
He stated that he had a meeting with local executives and had discussed a uniform policy regarding the penalty of quarantine protocols violators.
“Magkakaroon na kami ng uniform implementation kung papaano ipapatupad ‘yung health standards… number of days in prison kapag nag-violate ka ng hindi pagsuot ng mask. We suggest 10 to 30 days, physical distancing also 10 to 30 days imprisonment,” Año emphasized.
He added that the penalty a violator will be fined costs about P1,000 to P5,000 for a uniform implementation.
This was passed after the recommendation of President Rodrigo Duterte on police officers to arrest and detain those who will not wear a face mask during the pandemic.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque earlier advised the public to wait for the ordinances to be issued amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The police can tell individuals to wear masks. They can ask the individuals to go home and get their masks and put it on. Pero sa ngayon po it is just to encourage people to wear masks,” he said in a televised briefing on Tuesday.
Authorities mandated the public to wear face masks and have physical distancing as precautionary measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
